Traditional English Saw Bench

Tools Required: tape measure, square, tenon saw, marking gauge, pencil, half round bastard wood file, rip and cross cut saws, block plane , and 1/2 inch bench chisel. (we will have a few extra tools on hand , but not enough for everyone)
Description: Build a traditional English saw bench using hand tools. A traditional English saw bench is an invaluable tool for your workshop. It has a top 6 to 8 inches wide, has a V-shaped notch (or open pass) for a saw. it can be used in multiple ways: clamping, basic sawing operations, a bench to make mortise and tenon joints, or as a stool. The bench is are individually sized to fit each person. Wood is provided.

Description: Mr Schultz, the creator of TWIST-A-NAME, has agreed to do a class for us. He will get you started on your own twist-a-name. The class will provide a 2x2x8 inch blank for each person to begin their piece and place their 2 names (or words). The class will, by example, take you through the making of a twist-a-name. You will also prep your piece and map it out to get started. (the rest of your project is homework)

Description: Take your carving to a new level. This intermediate class will allow you to learn the art of adding more detail to your carving as Terry, our in-house carving instructor, takes you through the use of various knives and techniques. He uses a wood spirit carving to develop more carving techniques, greater detail-- eyes, nose,... Each person will carve their own wood spirit.

Tune and Sharpen Hand Planes and Chisels

Description: Learn how to correctly tune your (new or used) plane for awesome performance. Bring your own plane or learn on one of the planes we will have available. In this class you will also learn how easy it is to sharpen and maintain your bench chisels and plane blades in this hands-on class. Greg will explain the features and benefits of the various sharpening stones and there will be time to work on your tools.
